Tonkeeper Pro, the upgraded version of the leading self-custody Tonkeeper wallet for The Open Network (TON) blockchain, now supports Tether (USDT) TRC20 tokens with no Tron (TRX) required, as per the latest updates shared with Finbold on Friday, March 14.

Thanks to the integration of Tonkeeper Battery, users can cover transaction fees using TON or USDT, even via in-app purchases on iOS and Android.

To make use of the new TRC20 feature, users have to open their Tonkeeper Pro desktop wallet, navigate to ‘Settings,’ and activate the option.

Simplifying crypto transactions

Tonkeeper Battery acts as a prepaid service within the wallet, allowing users to load credits that automatically handle transfer fees.

To top up their Battery, users can rely on a number of supported tokens or use a bank card directly via in-app purchases.

Oleg Andreev, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Tonkeeper, briefly summarised the benefits of the integration, stating:

“The mission of Tonkeeper is to make crypto payments easy for everyone and everything. With USDT-TRC20 support in Tonkeeper Pro, users can USDT payments without having to hold TRX on balance: fees are covered by Tonkeeper Battery. Support for USDT-TRC20 makes it easier for people to gradually transition to USDT on TON, where transaction fees are significantly lower and USDT.”

Positioning Tonkeeper Pro as a payments-first wallet

Users don’t need to hold TRX for network fees, the addition of USDT TRC20 supports this and underscores Tonkeeper Pro’s position as a payments-first wallet.

Traditionally, Tron-based USDT transfers meant the need to manage energy and bandwidth costs, often covering fees with TRX.

Tonkeeper Battery removes some of these issues by estimating transaction needs automatically and covering them without TRX. As such, the upgrade supports Tonkeeper Pro’s broader mission to make digital transactions more efficient and accessible.
