Blockchain development firm Moca Foundation announced the launch of Moca Chain, a new layer-1 blockchain focused on privacy-preserving identity and data authentication.

Moca Chain is a layer-1 blockchain purpose-built for identity and user data management applications, Moca Foundation announced on Wednesday.

The network aims to support the development of identity protocols that allow individuals, devices and artificial intelligence agents to control and verify their credentials without relying on centralized service providers.

The testnet is expected to launch in the third quarter of 2025, with mainnet deployment slated for the fourth quarter, the foundation said.

Moca Chain will enable the verification of onchain and offchain user data by applications on any chain, the foundation claimed. The system will utilize the MOCA token for transaction fees, validator staking, storage, oracle services, data generation and verification fees.

What’s under the hood?

This would make use of the ecosystem’s decentralized data storage, crosschain identity oracle and web proof data generation through zero-knowledge transport layer security (ZK-TLS) and onchain verification. The blockchain is also compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), facilitating interoperability with Ethereum and its sister chains.

Yat Siu, co-founder and executive chairman of crypto venture capital firm and Moca Foundation launch partner Animoca Brands, said billions of users opt for single sign-on (SSO) to log in to services. SSO allows users to access multiple applications and services with a single set of login credentials.

Siu explained that SSO implementations serve as keys to a user’s data, services and digital lives. Still, he said that “SSO represents a centralized point of failure that compromises security.” He added:

“Moca Chain seeks to solve this problem by giving users decentralized true ownership of their data, ensuring the sovereignty of users’ digital identity without a single point of failure.”

Reach on launch

Moca Network’s identity management software development kit, AIR Kit, is already integrated into offerings by various partners, including Animoca Brands’ portfolio companies, partners and affiliates. This reportedly results in a reach of over 700 million addressable users.

Data from AIR Kit-integrated systems will be available to protocols and applications built on Moca Chain. This includes leading South Korean loyalty rewards program OK Cashbag, reportedly counting over 28 million identity-verified users, as well as German football media company One Football, with its 200 million monthly active users.
