Former BitMEX CEO Arthur Hayes, who attracted attention with his bold and ambitious statements about Bitcoin (BTC) and altcoins, made important statements about Ethereum.

Speaking at the Bitcoin 2025 Conference, Arthur Hayes predicted that Ethereum could reach $5,000 this year.

Hayes argued that Ethereum could potentially reach a new all-time high despite its recent underperformance compared to rival cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Solana (SOL).

The celebrity said that ETH is currently the most hated layer-1 blockchain and that historically the most disliked assets tend to provide the best returns when market cycles turn.

According to Hayes, this suggests that ETH could double and outperform.

“I think ETH could go to $4,000 or $5,000 this year.

“I think ETH is the most hated tier-1 asset right now. And usually at some point in the cycle you want to be in the most hated asset, so I think ETH could outperform.”

Apart from Hayes, Geoffrey Kendrick, Head of Digital Assets at Standard Chartered, also stated that he has an bullish expectation for Etheruem and shared that he has a price target of $4,000 for 2025 and $7,500 for 2029.

As a result, a jump to $4,000, which is seen as the common denominator and lower bound of Kendrick and Hayes’ price prediction range, would represent a jump of approximately 50% from ETH’s current price of $2,640.
